Ergonomics Research

The programs affiliated with the Institute for Ergonomics are engaged in a variety of research activities. Several of these programs also offer graduate degrees dealing with human-centered design. What these programs have in common is that they:

  • Use real world problems as the basis for research and education

  • Produce graduates with strong technical and conceptual skills

  • Emphasize the importance of an interdisciplinary perspective for both research and education

  • Conduct research to identify generalizations for guiding effective human-centered design

  • Emphasize the invention of new designs and design concepts as part of their research

Details on specific research activities and educational programs are provided, dealing with both cognitive ergonomics and with physical ergonomics.
