Thomas Rockwell, 1929-2015

Image of Tom RockwellThomas Hugh Rockwell, PhD passed away peacefully on Christmas morning at the age of 86, surrounded by his children and his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth.

Dr. Rockwell dedicated over fifty years of his life to education and development of human factors engineering as an academic discipline at OSU. He joined the integrated systems engineering faculty in 1955, supervising over eighty graduate students and helping launch the careers of industry leaders, and leading academicians in the areas of transportation human factors and driver behavior.

He received many awards for his breakthrough research, including the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.

Friends and colleagues may call Tuesday, December 29 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Egan Ryan Funeral Home, 4661 Kenny Road. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 64 West Lane Avenue, Wednesday December 30 at 10:00 am with a private cemetery service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Thomas H. Rockwell Sr. Endowment fund at The Ohio State University.
